Taiwo Sanusi’s ‘Worship Through Strings’ earns praise

Nigerian guitarist and worship musician, Taiwo Sanusi, has continued to attract attention with his latest instrumental gospel single, “Worship Through Strings,” which offers listeners a different expression of worship through melody and sound.

The 3-minute, 28-second track has earned praise from mainstream music critic, Tóbi Kuti, who described the release as a compelling demonstration of how instrumental music can communicate the depth of worship without relying on lyrics.

Kuti said: “What stands out about ‘Worship Through Strings’ is the way Taiwo Sanusi places the electric guitar at the heart of the worship experience. He allows melody, phrasing and atmosphere to communicate what words sometimes cannot.”

According to the critic, the strength of the single lies largely in its simplicity, with the minimalist production creating enough space for Sanusi’s guitar to take centre stage.

“The production is restrained and gives the guitar room to breathe. Sanusi is expressive without making the song feel like a display of technical ability. The focus remains on the spiritual character of the composition,” Kuti added.

The absence of vocals and featured artistes also gives the song a distinctive identity, with the guitar effectively serving as the voice of the composition.

Kuti noted that the approach creates a reflective atmosphere that could appeal particularly to listeners seeking music for prayer, meditation and personal devotion.

He said: “The guitar becomes the voice here, carrying the emotional weight of the piece and inviting listeners into a quieter and more intimate form of worship.”

Released on April 26, 2026, “Worship Through Strings” presents Sanusi as an artiste exploring the intersection of musicianship and Christian ministry.

While the subdued nature of the song may not appeal to listeners who prefer more energetic gospel productions, Kuti believes its intentional restraint works in its favour by giving the release a clear musical and spiritual identity.

“Worship Through Strings may be better suited to listeners looking for meditation and intimate devotion than high-energy gospel music, but that is also part of its strength. It knows exactly what it wants to achieve,” he said.

Kuti rated the single 8.2 out of 10, citing Sanusi’s expressive guitar work, spiritual depth, restrained production and originality among its strongest qualities.

The release ultimately reinforces the idea that worship can take different forms, with Sanusi using his guitar to communicate a message and emotion that, in some moments, words alone may not fully capture.
