Graphic designer turns creativity into career beyond the design desk

Graphic designer turns creativity into career beyond the design desk

As businesses, organizations and social initiatives increasingly rely on visual communication to reach audiences, graphic design is evolving from a purely creative service into a broader professional tool for communication, branding, advocacy and business development.

For young Nigerian professional Taiwo Oluwaseun Moses, that shift has become a defining feature of his career, as he combines graphic design with public administration, consulting and community-focused initiatives.

Rather than limiting his creative practice to producing flyers, logos or promotional materials, Moses has expanded his work into campaign development, digital advertising, event branding and visual communication, while also maintaining a professional interest in regulatory and compliance consulting.

His experience reflects a growing trend among young professionals who are combining creative and administrative skills to build careers that extend beyond traditional job descriptions.

Moses recently graduated from the University of Lagos with First Class Honors and a CGPA of 4.50 out of 5.0, emerging as the fourth-best graduating student in the Department of Public Administration for the 2024/2025 academic session.

His academic background in public administration has provided a different dimension to his creative work, giving him exposure to organizational processes, public-sector management and institutional communication.

One area where the combination has become particularly visible is his work with the Lureg Support Foundation, where he serves as Graphics Designer and Project Manager.

Through the foundation, his creative work has been used for lupus awareness and fundraising campaigns aimed at improving public awareness and supporting patients. One of the initiatives he conceived, a meet-and-greet campaign in January 2026, attracted the attention of actress Funke Akindele and resulted in direct support for a lupus patient, while also generating renewed visibility for the foundation’s cause.

The experience illustrates how graphic design can function beyond aesthetics. In advocacy campaigns, visual communication can influence attention, explain complex issues and encourage members of the public to engage with a cause.

Moses has also taken the same multidisciplinary approach into business consulting.

As Lead Consultant at Taiwo Consulting Enterprise, he provides regulatory and compliance documentation support, coordinates client assignments and manages stakeholder communication. The consultancy has supported more than 1,000 small and large businesses in Nigeria with regulatory compliance requirements, including CAC registration and annual returns filing.

The combination of creativity and consulting has allowed him to approach communication from both sides: understanding how information should be presented and understanding the organizational processes behind it.

Beyond business, Moses has also applied his creative skills to religious and community communication. As Media Team Lead at the Church of Christ, Olota, he oversees visual communication for the church’s outreach programmes.

For him, the increasing demand for digital communication presents an opportunity for designers to rethink the scope of their profession.

“Excellence lives in the details; when you pay attention to the little things, everything you create stands tall,” he said.

His career trajectory also raises a wider question about how young professionals can remain competitive in an economy where specialized skills increasingly overlap.

For Moses, graphic design is no longer an isolated creative function. It is a skill that complements administration, consulting, advocacy and entrepreneurship.

As he continues to develop his professional practice and pursue opportunities beyond Nigeria, his experience points to a broader reality: the future of creative work may belong not only to those who can design, but to those who can connect creativity with strategy, communication and measurable impact.

In that sense, the design desk may only be the starting point.
