As Ogun State looks ahead to the 2027 governorship election, the choice before its people should transcend political slogans and emotional appeal. It should be anchored on competence, experience, vision, and the demonstrable capacity to govern a dynamic and economically strategic state.

One of the key questions voters may consider is who is best prepared to lead a complex, industrial and investment-driven state like Ogun. Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has built a public service career that, in the writer’s view, reflects extensive legislative experience and professional expertise.

Senator Adeola is a trained accountant, financial expert and accomplished legislator whose public service trajectory has taken him from the Lagos State House of Assembly to the House of Representatives and now the Senate. His career has been marked by increasing legislative responsibilities and sustained public service.

This progression reflects years of experience in governance, policymaking and public administration. As a professional accountant and legislator, he has served in roles relating to finance, appropriation and public accounts, providing him with experience in government expenditure, revenue generation, fiscal management and policy implementation.

The next governor of Ogun State will be expected to expand internally generated revenue, attract greater federal investments, prudently manage public finances and leverage the state’s strategic position as one of Nigeria’s leading industrial hubs. In the writer’s view, Senator Adeola’s professional background and legislative experience align with these responsibilities.

Another notable aspect of Senator Adeola’s profile is his political experience across Lagos and Ogun states. Having represented Lagos West before returning to represent Ogun West in the Senate, he has gained insight into the economic and developmental relationship between the two neighbouring states.

For a state whose economy is closely linked with Lagos, this experience may prove valuable in pursuing regional economic integration, industrial development and investment opportunities.

The writer also notes Senator Adeola’s legislative seniority and relationships within the National Assembly, arguing that these could assist Ogun State in attracting federal projects and strengthening engagement with the Federal Government.

As Ogun State approaches another important electoral cycle, voters are encouraged to prioritise competence, experience and strategic vision when assessing those seeking public office. According to the writer, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) has developed the professional and legislative experience that positions him to contribute to the state’s future development.

For Ogun State, the focus should remain on identifying leadership capable of promoting sustainable growth, prudent resource management and shared prosperity.
