Nigerian comedian and content creator Okojie Bobby Oseyi, popularly known as ThaEdoBoy, has credited established entertainers, including Sydney Talker, Broda Shaggi and Craze Clown, with shaping his approach to comedy and teaching him the importance of consistency and longevity in the entertainment industry.

The Edo-born skit maker, who blends football, comedy and everyday Nigerian experiences in his content, said studying the careers of successful creators helped him understand that sustaining relevance requires discipline, hard work and continuous reinvention.

Speaking about his inspiration, ThaEdoBoy recalled receiving career advice from Sydney Talker while he was a 100-level student at the University of Benin.

“A lot of comedians and creators really inspired me. The likes of Sydney Talker, Broda Shaggi and Craze Clown. Shout out to Sydney Talker who gave me some advice back when I was in 100 level at the University of Benin,” he said.

According to him, the most valuable lesson he learned was the importance of consistency.

“You need to be consistent and hardworking and never stop grinding. The day you stop, it’s the day your audience will move on,” he added.

ThaEdoBoy, a graduate of Statistics from the University of Benin, said his perspective on content creation changed after earning his first income from the industry in 2019.

With about 10,000 Instagram followers at the time, he received ₦20,000 for promoting a music project, an experience he described as a turning point in recognising the commercial potential of digital content creation.

“I realised content creation could become a serious business when I made my first ₦20,000. I knew that if I could earn that amount then, there would come a day I could make ₦2 million and even more,” he said.

A passionate football fan and supporter of Cristiano Ronaldo, ThaEdoBoy said football has become an important part of his content because of the emotional connection many Nigerians have with the sport.

He, however, stressed the need for creators to keep football-related comedy entertaining and avoid content that could become offensive.

Beyond comedy, ThaEdoBoy also spoke on the business side of the creator economy, urging brands to look beyond follower counts when selecting influencers for campaigns.

According to him, brands should pay greater attention to whether a creator’s content aligns with the target audience rather than focusing solely on social media numbers.

He also advised aspiring content creators to build a distinct niche instead of relying entirely on trends, arguing that originality offers a stronger foundation for long-term success.

Looking ahead, ThaEdoBoy said he hopes to expand into business and sports, describing content creation as the foundation for broader career ambitions. He maintained that patience, consistency and continuous growth remain essential for creators seeking lasting success in the digital entertainment industry.
