….Charges them to uphold professional excellence

Sixty-one graduating students of McPherson University’s College of Computing have been formally inducted into the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), marking a significant milestone in their academic and professional journey.

The induction ceremony, held on Thursday celebrated the successful transition of the graduates from the Departments of Computer Science, Cyber Security and Software Engineering into Nigeria’s foremost professional computing body.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francis Adegbaye Igbasan, congratulated the inductees on attaining another important milestone in their academic and professional development. He described the induction as a testament to their hard work, resilience and commitment to excellence, while charging them to uphold the university’s core values of knowledge, integrity and service throughout their careers.

He urged the graduates to embrace professionalism, ethical conduct and continuous learning, noting that the computing profession is evolving rapidly and demands competence, character and innovation.

The Vice Chancellor also highlighted McPherson University’s growing international outlook through its Erasmus+ Mobility Programme partnership with Karabuk University, Türkiye. According to him, the collaboration has opened opportunities for student and staff exchanges, joint research and knowledge sharing in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Machine Learning.

He noted that the initiative reflects the university’s commitment to providing global exposure and equipping students with the skills required to thrive in a technology driven world.

In his welcome address, the Ag. Dean of the College of Computing, Dr. Falade Adesola, described the induction as more than a recognition of academic achievement, stating that it represents the graduates’ formal admission into a respected professional community entrusted with shaping Nigeria’s digital future.

He commended the inductees for successfully navigating years of rigorous academic training, practical laboratory sessions, software development projects, research activities, industrial attachments and examinations, urging them to continue pursuing excellence throughout their professional lives.

Dr. Falade further reminded the new professionals that membership of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria comes with enormous responsibility. He encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of ethics, safeguard data privacy, respect intellectual property, promote cybersecurity and remain committed to lifelong learning in order to stay relevant in an ever changing technological landscape. He also appreciated the university’s management, faculty, parents and the leadership of CPN for their unwavering support in producing globally competitive computing professionals.

Delivering the induction lecture titled “Stepping into the Universe from the University: Navigating Purpose, Professionalism, and Possibilities”, Prof. Olufade F. W. Onifade of the University of Ibadan challenged the graduates to see graduation not as the end of learning but the beginning of a lifelong journey of growth and impact. He urged them to become innovators, problem solvers and ethical leaders capable of adapting to emerging technologies while preserving the human values of integrity, empathy, creativity and sound judgement. He also encouraged them to embrace Artificial Intelligence responsibly and leverage technology to create solutions that improve lives and contribute meaningfully to society.

The ceremony reached its climax with the formal induction of the 61 graduates into the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, signifying their readiness to practise as computing professionals. Parents and guardians were applauded for their sacrifices and steadfast support, while the inductees were reminded that they now carry the reputation of both the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria and McPherson University wherever they go.

The second College of Computing Induction Ceremony reaffirmed McPherson University’s commitment to producing graduates who are academically sound, professionally competent, morally upright and globally competitive. As the newly inducted professionals begin the next phase of their careers, they do so equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to contribute to national development and make meaningful impact in the global digital economy.
