Losing everything inspired global online school – Lilian Ajewole

Director Lilian Ajewole explained the school’s founding vision and core philosophy. “MindSpring Haven School was founded with one mission at its core: to nurture children who think deeply, act responsibly, and thrive confidently in an ever-changing world,” she said.

“Our philosophy is built on the belief that every child is gifted, but those gifts only flourish in the right environment, one that is safe, intentional, stimulating, and emotionally supportive.”.

Lilian said what began as one of the darkest periods of her life eventually evolved into a platform providing quality education to learners in the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Australia and several other countries.

According to her, the painful experience opened her eyes to the growing challenges many parents face in accessing quality education that combines academic excellence with flexibility and global relevance.

She explained that while rebuilding her life, she discovered a gap in the education sector, particularly among families seeking accessible learning opportunities for their children regardless of location.

Speaking on the journey, Lilian said: “Sometimes, the chapter that almost breaks you becomes the chapter that introduces you to your life’s work. After losing my business and financial stability, I realised that many families were searching for quality education that was both accessible and flexible. That discovery inspired the birth of MindSpring Haven School, and today we are privileged to serve learners across several countries.”

She noted that the school has grown into a global learning community, connecting children across borders through technology while delivering the British Curriculum to learners from different parts of the world.

Lilian stressed that the rapid evolution of education has positioned online learning as more than an alternative, describing it as an essential option for families seeking personalised learning, flexibility and international exposure.

According to her, technology has made it possible to eliminate geographical barriers, allowing children to receive quality education irrespective of where they reside.

She further maintained that the future of education lies in combining innovation, technology and academic excellence with genuine care for learners.

“Success is not the absence of failure but the courage to keep moving forward when life gives you every reason to stop. Seeing our students succeed, parents express satisfaction and our community continue to grow internationally reminds me that purpose often emerges from pain,” she added.

Lilian Ajewole is the Founder of MindSpring Haven School, a British Curriculum online institution serving learners in Nigeria and across the diaspora. She also founded Tutorium Learning and continues to advocate for accessible, high-quality education beyond national borders.
