The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State, Emmanuel Unuafe, has called on political leaders and stakeholders to remain focused on addressing Nigeria’s pressing security and socio-economic challenges.
Reacting to a recent event where the First Lady presented vehicles to women leaders, Unuafe said while initiatives that promote women’s participation in leadership are commendable, they should be matched with sustained efforts to tackle issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
In a statement, he noted that many citizens continue to grapple with insecurity, economic hardship and uncertainty about the future, stressing that public activities and political engagements should reflect the realities confronting communities across the country.
“The issue is not the empowerment of women, which is a commendable objective,” Unuafe said. “Rather, it is the need to continually demonstrate commitment to addressing the challenges that affect the daily lives of Nigerians.”
According to him, public perception of government and political activities is often shaped by the broader national situation, particularly at a time when many citizens are seeking solutions to security and economic concerns.
The ADC candidate emphasized the need for empathy, accountability and responsive leadership, arguing that both leaders and citizens have important roles to play in strengthening democratic governance and promoting national development.
He further called for intensified efforts to improve security, enhance livelihoods and rebuild public confidence in institutions, maintaining that meaningful progress requires sustained attention to critical issues and a collective commitment to the welfare of Nigerians.
“At this critical period in our nation’s history, there is a need for leaders and citizens alike to remain focused on the issues that matter most to the people,” he stated. “Our collective efforts should be directed toward building a safer, more prosperous and more inclusive Nigeria.”
Unuafe also urged political actors across party lines to prioritise policies and initiatives that address the country’s most pressing challenges while promoting unity and national cohesion.
