Amid the continued growth of online content consumption across Africa, Nigerian media entrepreneur Tayo Fadeyi is drawing attention within the country’s digital media space as the founder of entertainment platform, Hitztv.
Over the years, Fadeyi has expanded the platform which launched in 2016 as an entertainment blog focused on celebrity news and popular culture, to include music, sports, lifestyle and technology.
For Fadeyi, the platform’s development represents part of a broader effort by African-owned digital platforms to increase the visibility of African stories and creative industries within the global entertainment landscape.
Observers say the emergence of digital platforms founded by younger African entrepreneurs reflects changing patterns in media production and consumption, particularly among younger audiences who increasingly rely on online sources for entertainment and lifestyle news.
The expansion of entertainment-focused digital platforms has also been linked to the wider growth of Nigeria’s digital economy, with media entrepreneurs seeking to build brands capable of attracting audiences beyond the domestic market.
