A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and aspirant for Abeokuta South State Constituency I in the 2027 general elections, Akintunde Sorunke, has declared his support for the governorship ambition of Chief Oladipupo Adebutu, describing him as a man of proven integrity, competence and unquestionable Ogun State heritage.

Sorunke stated this while reacting to Adebutu’s declaration to contest for the office of governor of Ogun State under the platform of the PDP ahead of the 2027 polls.

The PDP aspirant stressed that, as a thoroughbred Egba man, he would rather support a credible Ogun indigene with a verifiable background than back any “foreigner” whose identity and allegiance may be in doubt.

He noted that Adebutu’s roots in Ogun State, particularly from the Ijebu axis, coupled with his political track record, position him as a unifying figure capable of advancing the development of the state.

“I am delighted that one of our own, a true son of the soil, has stepped forward. When you consider truth, honesty and integrity, these are qualities that distinguish Adebutu at a time when some individuals parade questionable academic records, unclear identities and false narratives about their origins,” Sorunke said.

He added that credibility in small matters often reflects leadership capacity, warning that individuals who fail the test of truthfulness cannot be entrusted with governance.

“Leadership imposed on the people through questionable means or external influence rarely delivers meaningful development. Chief Ladi Adebutu is the Lisa Aje of Egbaland and a bona fide son of Ogun State,” he stated.

Speaking on his own background, Sorunke highlighted his deep roots in Egbaland, noting that his family lineage is synonymous with honour, community service and a long-standing commitment to the development of Ogun State.

“Our heritage is our pride. I come from a lineage that understands the value of integrity, service and responsibility to the people. These are the same values I see in Chief Adebutu,” he added.

Sorunke also reaffirmed his confidence in the PDP, describing it as a party founded on strong democratic ideals and people-oriented policies.

According to him, “The PDP has the ideology, the structure and the experience to reposition our state and the nation. It remains the most viable platform for addressing economic hardship, poverty and insecurity, and restoring hope to the people.”

Reiterating his commitment to his constituency, Sorunke assured residents of Abeokuta South State Constituency I of quality legislative representation anchored on transparency, inclusiveness and grassroots development if elected in 2027.

He urged party members and the general public to support credible leaders with integrity and genuine passion for service, noting that the future of Ogun State depends on the collective choices of its people.
