The Vice-Chancellor of Vision University, Ikogbo, Prof. Olatunji Afolabi Oyelana, has charged newly admitted students of the institution to embrace discipline, hard work, and integrity as they begin their academic journey, declaring that their future success depends largely on the choices they make from the outset.

Speaking at the University’s 3rd Matriculation Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, themed “Soaring Beyond Limits,” Oyelana described the occasion as a defining moment in the lives of the matriculating students.

“This moment in history will remain profoundly significant throughout your lives. The days ahead will shape your life’s trajectory. You must constantly reassess yourselves and take responsibility for your actions.”

The Vice-Chancellor noted that admission into the University marks the beginning of a crucial phase that would determine the students’ academic and professional future.

“The quality of effort and commitment you invest in the next four to five years will determine your future. The journey to a bright and successful life begins now,” he added.

While conveying the goodwill of the Founder and Chancellor, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okafor, he urged the students to build a solid academic foundation anchored on diligence and perseverance.

Oyelana highlighted the University’s strides in academic development, revealing that all 19 programmes across three faculties have received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC), with re-accreditation scheduled for late 2026.

He further disclosed that health-related programmes such as Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, and Public Health have secured recognition from relevant professional bodies, underscoring the institution’s commitment to quality education.

“We pride ourselves on producing world-class graduates through modern teaching and research facilities, as well as mentorship from renowned academics and professionals,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also outlined ongoing infrastructural and academic expansion, including plans to introduce a Law Degree programme and the establishment of new laboratories for health sciences.

He noted that partnerships with teaching hospitals across Lagos and Ogun States have been secured to provide students with hands-on clinical training, while additional hostel facilities have been donated to cater for the growing student population.

Reiterating the institution’s stance on discipline, the Vice-Chancellor warned the students against misconduct.

“Vision University maintains zero tolerance for drug abuse and violent behaviour. Any student found culpable will face strict disciplinary actions, including suspension or expulsion,” he said.

In her goodwill message, the Founder and Chancellor, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okafor, congratulated the matriculating students and described their admission as both a privilege and a responsibility.

“This ceremony marks not only your formal admission but your commitment to the values and aspirations of Vision University. Today, you take an oath of allegiance that binds you to this institution for life,” she said.

Okafor emphasized the importance of character in achieving success, noting that academic qualifications alone are insufficient.

“Your success in life will depend more on your character and attitude than on your certificates. Therefore, cultivate integrity, honesty, diligence, and compassion,” she advised.

She assured students of a conducive learning environment, stating that the University has continued to invest in infrastructure, including hostels, staff housing, recreational facilities, and road networks to support a vibrant academic community.

“We will not compromise our standards under any circumstances. It is in your best interest to abide by the University’s rules and uphold its values,” she stressed.

Calling for broader collaboration, Okafor urged individuals and corporate organisations to partner with the University in its quest to become a world-class institution.

“The task of building a great university cannot be achieved alone. Together, we can sustain excellence and align with global best practices,” she said.

The ceremony marked another milestone in the growth of Vision University, as the institution continues to position itself as a centre for academic excellence and character development in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
