Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has been honoured with the ‘Good Governance’ Award by Vanguard Media ltd, in recognition of his administration’s strides in agriculture and rural development.

The award was presented on Friday at the 14th Annual Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards held at Eko Hotels & Suites Lagos, where the governor emerged as one of the six governors, alongside business leaders and other prominent Nigerians, acknowledged for impactful leadership and measurable development outcomes.

Governor Buni, who was represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Hon. Abdullahi Bego, was commended for policies and initiatives that have strengthened local economies and expanded access to critical services in rural communities across Yobe State.

Under his leadership, the state has pursued an aggressive agricultural revitalization agenda, including sustained investment in farmer support programmes, improved access to inputs, and interventions aimed at boosting food production and increasing rural incomes.

These efforts have positioned agriculture as a central pillar of economic recovery and growth in the state.

Meanwhile, the administration has also complemented these initiatives with infrastructure and social investments targeted at grassroots communities, particularly in road construction and healthcare delivery, improving connectivity and access to essential services in remote areas.

Other governors recognised in the Good Governance category include Agbu Kefas of Taraba and Governor of Cross River States.

The event drew a high-profile audience, including the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Iman Suleiman-Ibrahim, as well as captains of industry, former governors and other influential figures.
