The Ika South Local Government Council, in collaboration with the Delta State Ministry of Works, has announced a deadline for the removal of illegal structures around Uromi Junction as part of preparations for a proposed flyover bridge project.

Residents and business owners operating within the affected areas have been urged to comply promptly to avoid enforcement actions by government authorities.

According to the council, the move is aimed at ensuring public safety, restoring order, and creating space for smooth execution of the long-anticipated infrastructure project. Government officials stressed that the exercise is necessary for sustainable development and warned that no exceptions would be made once enforcement begins in January 2026.

A notice by Mr. Onyemari Kelvin, Supervisor for Environment, Ika South Local Government Council, also appealed for the cooperation of residents and stakeholders to ensure a hitch-free commencement of the project.

The notice reads in part: “Ika South Local Government Council and the Delta State Ministry of Works hereby call on the general public particularly residents and business owners operating around Uromi Junction and its environs, to remove all extensions and illegal structures on the right of way of the proposed flyover bridge project, on or before 31st December, 2025.

“Please note that government enforcement and removal exercises will be on 3rd January, 2026, while work on the project will commence on 5th January, 2026.

“All affected persons are therefore advised to comply promptly with this directive by removing all such structures without delay. This notice is issued in the interest of public safety, order and sustainable development.”
