ABUJA – High Chief Austin Oguejiofor has called on Nigerians to rally behind the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying the FCT is witnessing a level of reform and enforcement that previous administrations were unable to deliver.

In a statement he signed, Oguejiofor said Wike’s firm approach to restoring the Abuja Masterplan and reviving long-abandoned projects had brought discipline, clarity and new momentum to the city’s development efforts.

“Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria, which is a pride to Nigerians and Africans based on its well planned landscape, and it is backed up with a decree. We have had several ministers who had been appointed to over the development of the capital city but the appointment of His Excellency, Barrister Nyesom Wike by a visionary leader, His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu to revolutionize the development of the FCT in accordance with its Masterplan,” Oguejiofor said.

According to him, projects awarded as far back as 2007 were ignored for years until Wike reactivated them through tighter financial management, the plugging of leakages and the enforcement of contractors’ return to site.

“Nigerians and visitors in Abuja can attest to the amazing and breathtaking rapid development of the nation’s sit of power with massive infrastructural development, which had drastically transformed the face of the FCT including the suburbs,” he added.

Oguejiofor highlighted the resurfacing of 189 roads, the completion of the Wuye-Wuse I interchange, ongoing work on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, the restoration of streetlights and improved security operations as visible indicators of the Minister’s impact.

“He has been able to rescue kidnapped victims and dealt with criminals terrorizing FCT residents, and there is synergy among the security agencies in the fight against criminals in and around FCT,” Oguejiofor said.

He urged the public to appreciate the pushback Wike is facing, noting that the Minister is confronting powerful interests who have long violated planning regulations and acted with impunity.

“The Minister is not fighting for himself as some Nigeians are being brainwashed and to oppose his efforts, but it is for the national interest to secure Abuja from persons who have demonstrated impunity and feel they cannot be touched, therefore, stampeding the law and making rubbish of the Abuja masterplan,” he added.
