…unveils filmmakers masterclass
Samuel John, a prominent Nigerian creative force and the founder of Samueljohn Films, has made a remarkable impression on the global stage as a delegate at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 in Russia. Representing Nigeria’s creative sector, John joined a distinguished group of world leaders, policymakers, and cultural innovators to advocate for media innovation, cultural exchange, and global collaboration.
As the Creative Director of Creativity Niche Studios, Samuel John stood out as one of the few Nigerian creatives in attendance, alongside other notable delegates including Moses Abah, Imoh Eboh, Shalom Ernest, Kelechi Godfrey, Lilian Eze, and Christine Vihishima. Throughout the four-day summit, the Nigerian team engaged in deep conversations and strategic sessions with global media professionals, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders.
“I had the privilege of meeting some of the most brilliant creative minds from around the world,” Samuel John said. “Our conversations went beyond creativity; they were about using storytelling to foster unity, drive social impact, and contribute to development across borders.”
During his time at the forum, John initiated a powerful visual storytelling project—capturing his SPIEF experience through a series of documentary-style short films. These clips, shot and edited in real-time, presented a human tapestry of the forum’s attendees and their shared aspirations. “It didn’t matter our backgrounds or where we came from. Through these stories, I saw how creativity transcends borders and speaks directly to our shared humanity,” he explained.
With a focus on building cross-border partnerships in media and nation-building initiatives, John described the experience as transformative. “The energy at SPIEF was unmatched,” he said. “I connected with powerful voices across business, media, and culture. These relationships will lead to real-world impact—both locally and globally.”
He also highlighted the importance of Nigeria’s presence in such spaces, stating, “We are ready to bring stories from Africa to the world, and platforms like SPIEF are proof that we belong in these rooms.”
Building on the global momentum from the summit, Samuel John has announced the launch of a dedicated Masterclass this August 2025, tailored for aspiring filmmakers, editors, and storytellers across Nigeria and Africa. The program will cover storytelling for impact, editing techniques, and the business of filmmaking, offering participants access to industry-grade tools and international exposure.
With his SPIEF experience already opening doors to international collaborations, John remains committed to spotlighting African narratives through film, creativity, and meaningful engagement. His journey serves as a bold reminder that Nigeria’s creative talent is not just growing—it is leading on the world stage.
