Quality education antidote to  insecurity, poverty – Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu  of Lagos State  has described quality education as the  the game-changer in the quest to eradicate poverty, inequality, and insecurity, declaring his administration’s commitment  to providing every child with access to top-notch educational opportunities to reach his potential.

He made the assertion at the commissioning of additional  ultra-modern block of classrooms at Lekki Community Senior Secondary School, Ibeju-Lekki, and  Idata-Ilagbo Community Secondary School, Idata Ibeju-Lekki.

The newly commissioned facilities which included  fully furnished classrooms, state-of-the-art science laboratories, staff offices, conveniences, and a renovated administrative block, were the tenth schools to be commissioned between Thursday last week and yesterday.

Represented by the  Special Adviser on Energy and Mineral Resources, Abiola Olowu, the governor, said :  “We believe that quality education begins with quality infrastructure, and that is why we will continue to invest in projects like this to empower the next generation. Education is the foundation upon which a thriving society is built, making it imperative for all stakeholders to prioritize learning infrastructure.

 He applauded efforts of  the Lagos State Ministry of Education, the local community, and other stakeholders for their collaboration in making the project a reality, even as he  urged students of Lekki Community Senior Secondary School, to seize the opportunity presented to them, by being disciplined and study  diligently.

While reminding he students that the  future belongs to those who were prepared, he said “ we are here to prepare you for greatness. Education will open doors you never imagined”.

Represented by  the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Wahab Tokunbo,

at the commissioning of new facilities at Government Junior College, Ketu Epe, Sanwo-Olu, announced that the  same event would hold in other schools across the state.

 He explained that : “These newly commissioned facilities embody our vision for a progressive Lagos, where quality education is a right, not a privilege. With  the state-of-the-art classrooms and improved infrastructure, we are fostering a learning environment where students can excel academically and grow socially.

“Plans are in place to expand vocational training programs and digital literacy initiatives to equip students with the skills needed in today’s digital world.”

 A representative of the Technical team of Special Committee of Rehabilitation of Public School (SCRPS), Engr. Odekunle Segun explained  that , “ in the building, we have provided about 30 toilets for male and female students, including the teachers.

“We also have a well that is well-treated, that supplies water from the underground tank  to the last floor of the building.  The facility will enhance quality education delivery and create a conducive learning environment to the benefit of students and the teachers,” Segun said.

Chairman of Ikosi-Ejirin, Wale Anomo,  who appreciated  the Lagos State Government for demonstrating its commitment to the people,  encouraged students to remain focused and determined, as well as aspire to become great leaders in future.

 Additionally, the Regent of Ketu-Epe, Adewale Badru, who also  appreciated the Governor for his efforts in Lagos State, particularly in Epe, expressed concern about the low number of students at Ketu-Epe Government College, especially in the junior section.

“A new and spacious building like this would be underutilised if there are no students to fill the classrooms,” he noted.
