Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reassured the public that the Labour Party remains united and stronger, despite leadership challenges.

Speaking at the flag-off of the 13.9-kilometer Onuinya–Okporoenyi–Oboro Ikwuano road project, connecting agrarian communities in Bende and Ikwuano Local Government Areas, Otti dismissed speculations about the party’s disintegration.

He noted that leadership disputes are not unusual in political parties but emphasized that the Labour Party had resolved its issues and emerged stronger.

“There’s nothing to worry about Labour Party. The party is intact. Disagreements happen everywhere, but the key point is reaching a resolution. The party is bigger than any single individual, and I can tell you that LP is now united and stronger,” Otti affirmed.

The Governor expressed confidence in the party’s bright future as they prepare for the 2027 elections.

Governor Otti highlighted the strategic importance of the road project in fostering agricultural growth and improving food production in the state.

“The road will connect major cocoa, palm oil, cassava, and rice-producing areas, giving farmers better access to transport their produce to cities for economic gains. No part of Abia will be left behind,” he assured.

Otti explained that two construction firms were contracted to ensure the road’s completion within six months. He promised the road would meet the highest standards, complete with streetlights in built-up areas.

Commissioner for Works, Otumchere Otti, lauded the decision to prioritize the road, criticizing previous administrations for neglecting such a vital project.

“This road corridor harbors major agrarian communities producing food in commercial quantities. It’s surprising that past governments overlooked it. This project will revitalize the agricultural sector and boost the state economy,” the Commissioner noted.

He added that the project would create over 200 direct and indirect jobs.

The traditional ruler of Okporoenyi Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Ossy Onyemantu, praised the Governor for coming to the community’s aid after years of hardship due to the poor state of the road.

Community members also expressed their gratitude, recounting how the deplorable road condition prevented them from holding burial ceremonies during the rainy season due to lack of access.

Speakers showered encomiums on Governor Otti for his transformative agenda and commitment to rural development.
