Vanguard’s Assistant Judiciary Editor, Mr. Henry Ojelu, on Saturday, won the 2024 Diamond Awards for Media Excellence, DAME, in judiciary reporting.

Vanguard’s Akeem Salau also clinched the 2nd runner-up position in the News Photography category of the award.

Mr. Ojelu’s report titled ‘Slow Justice: How infrastructure decay hampers judicial system’, published on August 3, 2023, was adjudged the best in the judiciary category of the award by judges drawn from academics, veterans, administrators, creative consultants, and researchers.

The winning report captured a nationwide account of the state of disrepair pervading court infrastructure and its impact on the administration of justice.

Two Punch reporters, Tunde Ajaja and Lukmon Abolade were 1st and 2nd runners up respectively in the category.

Vanguard’s Salau clinched the 2nd runner-up of the News Photography category of the award with his photo shot of the scuttle between the DSS and Prison Services over the custody of former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Salau’s photo entry captured the glaring display of indiscipline as uniformed personnel scuffled over who would take custody of Emefiele.

The award ceremony also honored Frank Aigbogun, publisher of BusinessDay, and Kunle Ajibade, Executive Editor/Director of TheNEWS/PM NEWS.

While Aigbogun was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award Ajibade received the DAME Honorary Fellowship.
