Plateau reiterates commitment to LPRES project

Jos – To significantly enhance the livestock value chain in Plateau State, the Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has restated the commitment to rehabilitate the Jos main Abattoir saying it is a part of a comprehensive approach to developing the livestock industry in the State.

Mutfwang spoke in Jos, the State capital when the World Bank team and National Coordinating Office Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support, LPRES Project, which recently concluded their 4th implementation support mission in Plateau State, visited him.

The meeting focused on assessing the State’s readiness for the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, LPRES and the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the successful implementation of the project in the State.

Leading the delegation, the Task Team Leader, TTL, Manievel Sene commended the Governor for welcoming the World Bank team to the State and emphasized that the mission’s primary goal was to assess the level of project implementation and highlighted the need to evaluate progress, identify challenges, and explore opportunities for enhancing the effectiveness of the project.

He reassured of the team’s commitment to fostering deeper collaboration with the Plateau State Government to establish a clear roadmap for achieving sustainable development outcomes.

However, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s support and commitment to the development of the livestock sector in Plateau State, saying, “We hope that everyone embraces the Livestock Productivity initiative because it benefits the entire country. In Botswana, livestock contributes 50% to their GDP, and Plateau has the potential to achieve significant results, especially with the abattoir as a focal point.”

The team also visited several key sites, including the Jos main Abattoir, the Cold Chain Facility, the Farmers’ Field School, Integrated Dairies Limited (IDL), and identified locations for an Artificial Insemination Center and a Breed Multiplication Centre.

Meanwhile, Plateau State LPRES will partner with Integrated Diaries Limited, Vom, Jos South local government area to boost the production of diary in the State.
