On September 26, 2024, the US Open will commence. The 2024 tournament is taking place after the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon, all of which have taken place this year.
The tournament will kick off with matches of the main draw singles tournament.
In light of how the draws have gone, it is possible that Carlos Alcaraz and defending champion Novak Djokovic might meet again in the finals as they are wounded up on opposite sides of the draw bracket. If it happens, it will be the third final (of course, it will be another showdown) after both meet in the Wimbledon and Olympic finals this year.
However, there might be a twist as a heavier challenge faces Alcaraz who might have to deal with World Number 1, Jannik Sinner, in the semi-final; the latter opening his 2024 US Open account with a match against Mackie Donald.
As for the women, world number 1 Iga Swiatek is in top seed, followed closely by Iryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff; both having a tendency to meet in the semi-finals this time, compared to last time when they met in the finals.
While Coco Gauff will start the campaign with an opener against French Varvara Gracheva, Iryna Sabalenka, and Iga Swiatek will face qualifiers of the first round.
Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, having pitted in the draws will face Jelena Ostapenko who is seeded No.10.
The full schedule of the tournament which will end on the 8th of September is as below ;
Aug. 26-27: First Round
Aug. 28-29: Second Round
Aug. 30-31: Third Round
Sept. 1-2: Fourth Round
Sept. 3-4: Quarterfinals
Sept. 5: Women’s Semifinals
Sept. 6: Men’s Semifinals
Sept. 7: Women’s Final
Sept. 8: Men’s Final
The tournament will provide interesting stories which might include the recent doping case involving world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, the reigning champion Novak Djokovic’s attempt to win a 25th Grand Slam title, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka’s show of supremacy for a second major championship in 2024, and the American men’s attempt to finally end a 21-year Slam drought.
