Shina Abubakar, Osogbo
OSOGBO – Organisers of the #Endbadgovernance protest in Osun State have disclosed that both the Federal and State Governments have neglected their demands which led to the 10-day protest.
He added that the government should not take their silence for granted, saying if those at the helms of affairs continue to neglect the demands, another round of protest would commence from October 1.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo, the Coordinator of Concerned Nigerian Citizens in Osun State, Ajala Adetunji said the State government is paying lip service to their demands which bother on poverty alleviation and youth employment.
His words, “We are demanding from the government to make clarification on money received from the federal government and how it has been spent. The government should spell it out clearly its welfare package to cushion the effect of hunger.
“The state government must implement massive agriculture revolution centred on youth engagement, immediate implementation of the new minimum wage, offset outstanding salaries and pensions, and employment of youths among others”.
He added the federal government out of the 11-point demands set before it has only removed tax on food importation which is yet to have an impact on the masses lives, saying the masses would go back to the streets to continue to demand good governance.
“Our patience is not infinite. We have been reasonable, we have been patient, but we will not be ignored, If the government continues to turn a deaf ear to the cries of the people, they should brace themselves for the mother of all protests on October 1st as the citizens will not continue to fold their hands on the continuous increase of food and basic needs without corresponding measures to curb the unfortunate inflation,” he added
