Vanguard Personality of the Year: Ngozi Kekwaru, The true Nigerian hero

Vanguard Personality of the Year: Ngozi Kekwaru, The true Nigerian hero

In a clime where high poverty level is mostly used to justify certain societal ills, Miss Ngozi Kekwaru proved the proponents of such wrong.

Through a sheer display of honesty, she showed that all hope isn’t lost in this generation of Nigerians, who place high premium on materialism.

In her, the expectation of a nation where eroded value system is rebuilt came alive. To some sections of Nigerians, especially young people, her action didn’t speak smartnesss in a period of harsh economic realities. But Ngozi Kekwaru is the true Nigerian heroine, who believes a good name is worth more than a million diamonds.

This is her story: In July last year, Kekwaru, a staff of Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, found and returned 70,000 dollars to a guest at the hotel.

The incident occurred when the guest, who pleaded anonymous, left behind a bag containing the substantial sum in one of the hotel’s suites.

Upon discovering the bag, she immediately reported it to the hotel management.

The hotel’s General Manager, in line with the establishment’s policy of integrity and transparency, promptly initiated the process of returning the money to its rightful owner.

The guest was contacted and the money was returned in full, much to their relief and gratitude.

As modest as such an action may appear, it has added to many developments that change the negative narratives about Nigeria.

This heroic action earned Kekwaru, an indigene of Rivers State, the prestigious Vanguard Heroes award.

She is currently a bilingual customer service agent at Eko Hotels and Suites.
