Bandits on Monday night, attacked the Yan Nasarawa community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, killed 8 locals and kidnapped 38 who were mostly women and children.
The bandits also looted shops, rustled animals and set buildings on fire before leaving the community.
The locals who survived the attack, told the BBC Hausa Service that they were overpowered by the bandits who parked their motorcycles on the outskirts of the village, stormed the community and shot sporadically.
A son to the Village Chief of Yan Nasarawa who claimed that his father was among those killed, narrated his ordeal to journalists, saying the bandits rode on about 40 motorcycles and invaded the community wielding dangerous weapons.
” They killed my father who was the community head and his brother. They shot him and he died,” he said.
Another local said ” they killed at least, 8 persons. Six died immediately while the other 2:died afterwards.They set fire on 7 cars and abducted about 38 persons.”
“Security agents came at 12 midnight but the incident happened at 9pm, when the bandits operated and had left.We are in a state of fear and confusion. They’ve burnt our houses, our vehicles and our shops,” he said.
When contacted, the State Commissioner for Internal Security, Dr Salisu Mu’azu told journalists that he was in a meeting with the Commissioner of Police and promised to revert but could not.
