A heartfelt take on ‘Adonai’ by Taiwo Oshin feat. Bunmi Oshin

In today’s gospel scene, where African beats keep meeting deep faith in the most beautiful ways, Taiwo Oshin’s “Adonai” featuring his niece Bunmi Oshin, really stands out. Dropped on January 19, 2024, as a standalone single on Taiwo’s own label, this track mixes afrobeats, afropop, and a touch of rhythmic blues into what they call an “afro fusion laced with the breath of the Almighty.” The title “Adonai”  Hebrew for “Lord” says it all: it’s an uplifting invitation to keep praising forever.

Taiwo Oshin, the Nigerian-Canadian artist and worship leader, has always been about making the sacred feel approachable. He wants to show the church the supernatural is real and draw in people who don’t know God yet through music, of course.

Then there’s Bunmi Oshin, she’s an independent singer-songwriter who’s done pop, R&B, and more. People first noticed her big time on The Voice Nigeria back in 2017 for her peak performance during the battles which she won doing a rendition of Asa’s Eye Adaba. Bringing her fresh, versatile voice to this family collab adds something special it feels genuine, like a real passing-of-the-torch moment in worship music. You can hear the chemistry between uncle and niece right away.

At its heart, “Adonai” is a bold declaration of God’s unchanging power. The chorus repeats in that classic worship way that makes you want to sing along with everyone around you: “I will praise You (forever, forever) / I will worship You (forever, forever).” There are these lovely reminders that everything else fades earth, seasons, life but God stays the same. Lines like “From the rising of the sun / To the setting of the same / You have never changed” hit home, and the gratitude just pours out: “You’ve been good, good, good, good / I just want to say thank you Lord.” It even nods to Psalm 150 with “Let everything that has breath / Know they’re made to praise their King.”

The lyrics are sincere and straight from Scripture, but honestly, they walk a pretty familiar path in gospel music. Where the song really shines is the sound. Those infectious afrobeats layered over rich harmonies create this perfect vibe you can dance to it and still feel deeply reverent. Taiwo’s warm, grounded baritone holds everything together, while Bunmi’s brighter, more modern tone lifts the energy, especially in the ad-libs and bridges. It feels personal yet big enough for a whole congregation.

Production-wise, it’s super accessible right in that sweet spot between quiet reflection and lively praise. That said, it does play things a bit safe. And while the vocal blend is fantastic, I wish Bunmi had gotten more room to flex her pop/R&B side, it could’ve taken the track to another level beyond typical worship tunes.

Since dropping on YouTube in January 2024, the official video has racked up solid views and shows beautiful, vibrant shots of people worshipping. You can stream it on Spotify, Deezer, Boomplay, and more perfect for kicking off your week with some spiritual fuel.

Overall, “Adonai” is a strong addition to the rising afrogospel wave, where African artists are owning worship through their own cultural lens. Its real power is in the simplicity: a warm, family-made reminder of God’s greatness in a changing world.

Taiwo and Bunmi have given us something soul-stirring here great melodies, strong vocals, and a message that lands. Could it use a bit more lyrical freshness or bolder production risks to really break out? Maybe. But as Taiwo keeps bridging cultures and Bunmi builds her own path, this collab feels like the start of something even bigger. In a world that’s always shifting, it’s refreshing to have a song that just points straight to the One who never does. Solid work.
