By Providence Ayanfeoluwa

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG Love Assembly, Lagos Province 1, LP1, penultimate week, embarked on Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR initiative delivering three projects simultaneously to it resident community.

The church, RCCG, Love Assembly delivered Street Lights; House Numbering and Street Cleaning to Adefowope Street in Ilupeju where the church is situated.

Speaking at the occasion titled: “Corporate Social Responsibility, Pastor in charge of Lagos Province 1 and Assistant Pastor in charge of Region 1, RCCG, Pastor Samuel Olaniyan, said it embarked on three projects simultaneously with a view to combating issues of health hazards, security and easy accessibility of houses in the community adding that it is following God’s injunction which encourages the church to love their neighbor to enable those who are against the church to have a re-think.

Olaniyan said: “We are doing the three projects simultaneously because we want it to be an intervention in our community where the head quarter of the province is located in Adefowope Street in Ilupeju. Many times the street is very dark at night so we are installing solar light in the street due to insecurity in the land so that people can go about their business without molestation.

“We considered the gutters of the street which has been filled up at this rainy season which can lead to flooding. People also drop things in the gutters; this is also a health hazard. Poor drainage system breeds mosquitoes which has health implications.

We cannot leave everything to government; whatever we can we should do so as to make our society a better place for all.

“We are numbering the street because people go through hassles to locate where they are going. Someone who is evil minded may come and misdirect them. We believe houses should be well numbered in line with modern practice,” he said.

In his remark, Chairman, Ilupeju Central Community Development Association, Kole Abe, commended the church, adding that people would suffer when there is total dependence on government to do everything.

Abe advised religious bodies, good spirited individuals and organizations to emulate the gesture, saying: “We have been intimated about this project for some months back and we found it very commendable and we have been interfacing with them to ensure it comes to fruition. This is what ministry is all about, because they are going out of their way to go to key issues, lighting the streets clearing the drainages and numbering the houses, when citizens sit down and wait for government to do everything, we all suffer. But when organizations arise like in the good old days and begin to do things, life becomes more meaningful”

On his part, Assistant Pastor in charge of CSR, Lagos Province 1, Oluwasegun Olatona, said that the church embarked on the project to be able to give back to the society, just as he revealed the project cost the church over a million naira.

He added that the Province had carried out CSR project for all the youth in the Province and some youths in secondary schools in Lagos, and even collaborated with Yaba Psychiatric Hospital to sensitize the youth of the danger of drugs abuse.

He said that the plans are on the pipeline to enlighten parents on how to identity signs of drug indulgence in their children.

Olatona said: “We are complying with the scripture to do this CSR as a church to give back. Total package is what the environment needs. This would be extended to all the zones under LP1, and quarterly we do zonal CSR for the environment.”
