NDDC Probe: CSOs to Akpabio, publish names of NGOs as contract beneficiaries

A group of concerned Niger Deltans  under the auspices of Niger Delta Integrity Vanguard (NDIV) have berated members of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission over what they described a shameless  afterthought attack on members of House of Representatives Committee on NDDC.

The group also expressed its utter disappointment in members of the IMC whom they said should have buried their heads in eternal shame for betraying the trust of managing the NDDC in an interim capacity.

While responding to the list of contractors that the IMC members alleged to have paid under duress, the National Coordinator of NDIV, Comrade Abraham Agbonnivbare stated in a statement released on Saturday that the management team of NDDC and the supervisory minister, Godswill Akpabio have simply betrayed the trust of the people of Niger Delta.

“It is regrettable that the shameless IMC members of NDDC have suddenly found their voices once again to criticize members of House of Representatives Committee on NDDC. We are shocked with their afterthought reaction when the supervisory minister had earlier told the nation that members of the 9th National were innocent of all allegations because they have not effectively implement any budget”.

The statement further stated that IMC members have refused to give any explanation on the sum of N81 billion they were alleged to have misappropriated; yet chose to chase shadow by launching another fresh attack on members of the House Committee on NDDC.

“We are vexatiously disappointed that the same set of people that found it comfortable to divert over N6 billion that was meant for NDDC scholars abroad are out again with a fresh attack on members of NDDC House Committee that dared all threats and insisted on bringing  national awareness to the humongous fraud already perpetrated in the NDDC. Nothing could have been more shameless than this”.

Moreso, the group also wondered why the IMC would rather prefer that the Chairman of the House Committee on NDDC, Hon. Olubunmi go to court over what it described as patently false claims made by the agency’s Acting Executive Director of Projects, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh. Similarly, NDIV noted that Tunji-Ojo had demonstrated fairness and integrity by recusing himself from the Committee’s sitting on the very day the IMC members and the supervisory minister were to appear before the investigative panel.

Meanwhile, Agbonnivbare had also stated that the people of the Niger Delta would not be distracted by the latest antics of the IMC which was aimed at diverting attention from the ongoing mindless looting of NDDC resources.

“The long suffering people of the Niger Delta will never be distracted by the latest afterthought attack that has been launched by members of the IMC and their co-travellers. This latest attack on the members of National Assembly by IMC team is at best a lame afterthoughts effort to justify their mindless looting and flagrant misappropriation of NDDC funds”, the statement concluded.
