WARRI—POLOBUBO/Tsekelewu community in Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State, has asked the state government to address the challenges of underdevelopment in the oil-rich communities.
Making the appeal at a ceremony to handover a cottage hospital built by Chevron Nigeria Limited to the state government, National President, Polobubo/Tsekelewu National Association, Mr Ebilate Mac-Yoroki, said the state government should construct Trans-Egbema Road that will link Opuama-Polobubo-Ogbudugbud-Polobubo.
He appealed to the state government to dredge the river in the area, adding that this will revive economic life in the communities.
Thanking the state government for taking over the cottage hospital built by Chevron, the community also enjoined government to install a 1000Kva generating plant brought by the Delta state Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, adding that the governor should make it possible for the communities to be linked to the flow stations in the areas.
His words: “Our river has been silted to less than a metre in depth. The fresh water has been replaced by salt water from the Atlantic Ocean, destroying economic trees and vegetation that provided the people with lucrative livelihood.
“We appeal to the state government to see to the dredging of waterways, reclamation of New Polobubo and construction of Trans-Egbema Road from Opuama to Polobubo; from Ogbudugbudu to Polobubo.”
