The candidate representing the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the race for Bende Federal House of Representatives seat, Dr. Chimaobi Anyaso has rejected the outcome of the election that had INEC announce the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Benjamin Kalu as winner.
INEC had announced that Benjamin Kalu of the APC scored a total vote 9,138 while Chima Anyaso of the PDP scored 5,591, giving a difference of 2,010 votes between both candidates.
A statement made available by Chima Anyaso Campaign Organization described the result as a truncation of the will of the people of Bende Federal Constituency.
The statement read: “The will of the people of Bende Federal Constituency has just been truncated by the APC who under the watchful eyes and supervision of security operative, intimidated, harassed and assaulted the INEC Returning Officer into announcing their candidate as the winner of the House of Representatives election despite a very clear lead by Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso of the PDP in most parts of Bende.
“We hereby draw the attention of the world to APC’s rape of our democratic process and their desperate attempt to defile the free will of our people by the cancellation of over 30% of the votes cast, mostly in the stronghold of Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso.
“The Chima Anyaso Campaign Organization hereby register our rejection of the results as announced and promise to deploy all lawful means to make good our free given mandate by the good people of Bende. We also call on our teaming supporters to remain calm and law-abiding as our victory is only delayed and not denied.
It went further to list some reasons why the election is not a true reflection of the outcome of the election.
“Following a long-fought battle for the Bende Federal House of Representative’s seat, in a keenly contested election between Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso of the PDP and Mr. Benjamin Kalu of the APC, we hereby state categorically that the result of election, as announced under duress by the Collation / Returning Officer, Professor Maxwell I. Ezeja, is not a true reflection of the outcome of the election, therefore remains unacceptable, because the result announced doesn’t reflect the entire vote cast in this election. We hereby state as follows;
“That the election for the Bende Federal House of Representative’s seat held on the 23rd of February 2019 as scheduled in all the polling Units
“That not all votes in the election were collated as cast making it impossible for results from about 22 polling units to be reported
“That the collation officers cancelled some results from some polling units with claims that no results were submitted from those units, where, in fact, people had voted massively for Dr. Chima Anyaso in the said polling units
“That the total number of registered voters in the excluded polling units amounted to 7,601 in the said 22 polling units which results were not accounted for or claimed to be missing by INEC
“That, based on the result released, Benjamin Kalu of the APC is said to have scored total vote 9,138 while our Candidate, Dr. Chima Anyaso is allocated only 5,591, giving a difference of 2,010 votes between both candidates which excludes the missing or unaccounted for 7,061 votes.
“That this missing vote of 7,601 are votes in areas where our candidate Dr. Chima Anyaso has strong supports and which has significance in this election
“That we feel strongly that the process of election has been criminally interfered with and therefore the missing votes should be accounted for by INEC and be given due recognition.
“That we believe that the missing 7,601 votes belongs to our candidate, Dr. Chima Anyaso.
“That in the light of the foregoing, the INEC should go ahead and declare this election inconclusive until the missing votes are properly accounted for or cancel the entire election as the integrity of the entire process is being called to question
“That given this and so many other reasons bordering on undue interference, thuggery, intimidation, we call on INEC to reassure electorate in Bende that the outcome of this election which integrity has been called to serious question must reflect the will of the people.
“That this is our position, and we stand to reject the results so far announced by INEC as it doesn’t reflect the wish of Bende People.”
