…As Nigerian twitter users unfollow, report Shogunle’s handle

Trending on social media is the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Yomi Shogunle, who is under fire for his twitter comment which Nigerian users of the micro-blogging site, twitter, have said undermines the #EndSARS campaign.

Nigerian twitter user have continued to unfollow Shogunle’s handle and have also launched a report campaign, calling on the Twitter company to yank down Shogunle’s handle.

The #EndSARS campaign which was launched by aggrieved Nigerians is advocating the end of the Special anti-robbery Squad, SARS, of the Nigerian Police over the unit’s alleged brutality against innocent Nigerians.

Many victims of the alleged brutality of SARS have shared their ordeals through the campaign. Some Senators, including the former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, had joined their voices to condemn the alleged brutality of the Police SARS unit.

However, in a tweet that has irked Nigerians who believe their sensibilities have been insulted, the ACP, Yomi Shogunle, seems to have tried to play down the campaign and by extension, the brutality of the police unit against Nigerians.

He also twitted a video showing the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, express exclamation over the #EndSARS campaign, saying people should be careful about the clamour.

Shogunle also tweeted, mocking the #EndSars movement saying,” ‘186 million Retweets to #EndSARS. Oya let’s go!’.”

However, in response to his tweet mocking the campaign, Nigerian rapper Ycee tweeted, “You’re a hot pile of trash I pray God blesses you with long life to see an effective Nigerian police force without the likes of officers like you sir.”

Meanwhile, many other Nigerians on twitter are calling on Twitter company to block Shogunle’s handle over what they termed alleged violation of the micro-blogging site’s policy on hate speech and related matters.
