A 29-year-old man, Chukwudi Ugo, on Thursday appeared in an Epe Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for alleged theft of a tricycle worth N670,000.

Ugo, whose residential address was not provided, had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Moses Oyekanmi, told the court that the accused committed the offence at 5.05 a.m. on July 9, at Adelero road in Ajah area of Lagos.

Oyekanmi said that the accused stole the tricycle KTU 52 QE valued N670,000, property of Samuel Friday, the complainant.

“My Lord, the accused stole the Keke from where it was parked at the early hours of the morning.

“We have witnesses that saw him near the Keke before it was reported stolen,” Oyekanmi said.

The offences contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.

The court granted bail to the accused in the sum of N70,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Erusiafe-Fowowe, said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Erusiafe-Fowowe adjourned the case until Aug. 13 for mention. (NAN)
