LAGOS—The Association of Foreign Airlines and Representatives of Nigeria, AFARN, has honoured aviation stakeholders who have made tremendous contributions to the growth of civil aviation in Nigeria. Among those honoured and given awards by the body are veteran pilots, administrators, pioneer air hostesses, aviation reporters, amongst others who have made “sacrifices and contributions in promoting a safe, secured air travel in the country”.
The AFARN summit and awards with the theme: “Promoting the Nigerian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Through Safety Consciousness in the Aviation Industry”, provided an enriching platform for industry stakeholders to discuss the impact and role of aviation in the nation’s economy.
Speaking at the event, AFARN President, Mr. Kingsley Nwokoma said a Hall of Fame has been created and seven notable aviators inducted. Among those inducted are Captain Dele Ore, Director, Flight Operations in the defunct Nigeria Airways, Dr. Harold Demuren, Former Director General, NCAA, Captain Chinyere Kalu, Former Rector, Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, NCAT Zaria, Cecilia Aina Akagbue, First female cabin crew, Captain Bob Hayes, Captain Rufus Orimoloyo and Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, Executive Vice-Chairman Sifax Group and Chairman Skyway Aviation Handling Company, SAHCOL.
Another sets of awards were for those that have demonstrated uncommon quality in their line of duties.
