Felix Ayanruoh, a recipient of the United States Special Congressional Recognition Award and a New York based attorney and energy consultant, wants Deltans to support Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru for governor of Delta State.
Why do you want Deltans to support Chief Ogboru’s governorship ambition in Delta State?
The General, as he is fondly called, is a bold and courageous leader. He has had personal experience with poverty and the growing income gap, having fought poverty to become a successful businessman. Ogboru cares about the people. He is widely known for his selfless service to the poor – he sponsors indigent students to educational and professional institutions among others. The General has no ties to the corrupt political class. He has the broadest base of supporters, has not accepted ‘political money’ and is the least compromised by big money and special interests. The General is honest with the people: After almost 19 years of being lied to by past and present administrations and other politicians of Delta extraction, we deserve a governor who not only tells the truth, but also has a reputation for lifelong honesty, as does Chief Great Ogboru. We deserve an honest governor. The General inspires people of all ages to action. And while inspiration alone isn’t enough to get the job done, it’s a necessary ingredient to begin the hard work. After 19 years of mass corruption, incompetency, mediocrity and suffering of the masses under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Ogboru’s appeal to Deltans to rise up and take back our state is resonating among its citizens. His unwillingness to cross the line into the dark side of politics has touched a fundamental place in the hearts of many who are eager to believe that the political process is not entirely a cynical joke.
How do you see the chances of Ogboru, considering the clamor for an Anioma candidate in the All Progressives Congress (APC)?
It is no secret that some people in the state are agitating for an Anioma candidate in the APC, propagating it as a fulfilment of the arrangement in the PDP. The question that needs an urgent answer is what has an Anioma governor done for the Anioma people in particular and Deltans in general? The simple answer is nothing. However, it is imperative to state that producing the next governor transcends tribal or ethnic coloration, but a governor that will work for the interest of all Deltans. That candidate can be an Urhobo, Anioma, etc. The candidate presented should share its political and economic views.
Ogboru has shown, with his forward-thinking initiatives and proposed policies, to be that candidate. I couldn’t be more pleased with the way he managed his vast business empire, with his ceaseless demonstration of dignity, superior intellect and unparalleled innovation. The General will be a governor for all Deltans. He cares about what is best for the greater good and will represent the people, including Anioma. It is instructive to note that Chief Ogboru is Anioma – his mother is from Ndokwa. You cannot get it better than the General who is a true Deltan. His actions have always been motivated by a sincere desire to do what is fair and equitable, even if it means losing ground with his people. As governor, Delta State will be more unified as a people than it has been in the past.
