OYASAF museum, which houses the greatest number of art works in the country will be one of the places that will host Nigerian’s Omotunde Komolafe as he brings into the country about 300 tourists from around the world in what he described as the century’s grand intercontinental Motor Rally tagged Budapest–Lagos Challenge.
Speaking about the rally scheduled for June at OYASAF Garden, Mr. Komolafe said: “We are using four vehicles for this rally. This motor rally is purposely intended first, to draw the attention of tourists in Europe to the tourism potentialities of Nigeria, to showcase Nigeria to the world of motor rally competition and to also look inward for the emergence of Nigeria made car for continental competition.”
Mr Komolafe who is the organiser of Afro Festival of Arts in Budapest disclosed “Motor Rally is an intercontinental affair. It does not only involve people of different countries and races but of countries and continents. It is one of the best strategies of branding a country and making it visible in the eyes of the world.”
According to Mr Komolafe: “The Caravan of Hope will kick-off in Budapest and pass through the Sahara desert, to Morocco–Gambia–Senegal –Mali–Burkinafaso–Benin Republic–Lagos and we shall be intimating the press and the media as we advance and the journey progresses. We are hoping to be in Lagos at Novare Mall, Lekki Lagos, where there will be a welcome party in form of carnival.” Thereafter, the tourists will visit many cultural sites, buy art works, clothes and other things.
He said: “My country is blessed with wonderful people. My country is endowed with tourism potentialities which are still virgin, in the raw form and waiting to be enhanced, developed and patronised. Going by my over 32 years in Europe, I found out that majority of the people here do not have copious knowledge about the tourism goodies in Nigeria. Hence, our resolution this year is to create an intercontinental event to draw the attention of the world to the good side of my country.”
He revealed: “We are going to raise the flag of Nigeria high and talk about Nigeria’s tourism potentialities everywhere and at every opportunity that offers itself throughout our route.”
