Two employees of an eatery — Tantalizer — were on Tuesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a patron’s phone valued at N48,000.
The accused — Bright Edet, 20, and Eze Franklin, 18 — are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Police Prosecutor Clifford Ogu told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 28 at Tantalizer, Ogba in Ikeja area.
According to him, the accused stole a phone belonging to the complainant, Mr Gbenga Oluwatosin.
“The complainant left his phone on the table beside his plate of food and dozed off.
“When he woke up, he found out that his plates had been cleared and his phone missing,” he said.
Ogu said the complainant reported the case to the manager of the eatery and the two accused who cleared the table were handed over to the police for further questioning.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A Adegun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case until April 18. (NAN)
