Warri South DTHA seat: Urhobos warn against imposition of candidate

The Urhobos of Warri,  under the aegis of Movement For The Emancipation of Warri Urhobos, has warned against the imposition of candidate in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  primaries of Warri South Constituency 11, Delta State House of Assembly, DTHA, election in 2019.

The national coordinator of the group, Comrade Lucky Ibiri, who handed down the warning in a press conference at Otor Orere, headquaters of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Warri, Warri South local government, alleged that there are plans by highly connected persons, most of  whom he said are in Warri South Constituency 1 to manipulate the PDP primaries of the Warri South Constituency 11 in favour of their sponsored unpopular candidate.

Ibiri who recalled that former Governor James Onanefe Ibori while implementing his road map to peace in Warri, after the infamous Warri ethnic crisis, in his wisdom ensured that Warri South Constituency 1 and 11 are represented by the Itsekiris and the Urhobos of Warri respectively at the Delta State House of Assembly

According to him, the status quo has remained so since the emergence of Chief Dennis Omovie, the incumbent member representing Warri Constituency 11 at the Delta State House of Assembly and  that“  election matters are handled by the two ethnic groups in their constituencies without interference by either of the ethnic groups. But as I speak to you some people at the corridors of power have perfected plans to manipulate the delegates lists of PDP primaries in Warri South Constituency 11 for Delta State House of Assembly election in favour of  their aspirant who they think they can be used against the political interest of the Urhobos of Warri.

While pledging to work for  the second term bid of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in 2019 “because of his laudable achievements in Warri Urhobo areas and across the state”, Comrade Ibiri appealed to the governor and the PDP leaders in the state to prevail on the said persons to stay clear of the Warri  South Constituency 11 primaries in order to avoid ethnic crisis, warning that the group will not accept imposition of any candidate on the constituency.
