N’Delta agitators call for halt to cult-related killings

By Emma Amaize

YENAGOA—NIGER Delta agitators, yesterday, condemned the killings and violence perpetrated by cultists and other gangsters in the region, calling on susceptible youths recruited by self-seeking political leaders to halt the madness.

The agitators, under the aegis of 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta, in a statement by W O I Izon-Ebi, said: “We are asking them to repent because we know and understand that they have been deceived by our political leaders and fathers because of their greed and selfishness.

“The youths being used to cause mayhem should ask themselves why our political leaders want the best for their immediate family members to the detriment of Niger Delta as a region.

“The rate at which youths, including primary and secondary school children, not to talk of undergraduates in higher institutions are involved in killings and violence in the name of cultism is very disturbing and should not be allowed to continue.

“Our youth  should also ask why political leaders send their children abroad to study, while our educational system in the Niger Delta is not working with the proliferation of different cult groups. They should also inquire why there is no constant electricity despite the abundance of gas flaring everywhere in the Niger Delta.”
