ABUJA- ONE of the newly registered political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria, GDPN, Wednesday, alleged that the Buhari-led administration has failed Nigerians and the economy remains down despite coming out of recession.
This was stated by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mrs Yelwa Abubakar, during its maiden press conference held in Abuja, where the party also displayed its certificate issued by INEC as a registered political party and unveiled its manifesto.
Abubakar maintained that the party has given 35 per cent of participation to the young people that would translate into leadership of the country come 2019 general elections based on its structure across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, which has become an emerging trend in global democracy.
According to her, the party has membership of over 5 million Nigerians in 25 countries, and the party has no god-father, which they have been building the structures since 2017 January.
She also stated that the country cannot afford to elect parties that does not mean well for the economy and development of human capacity. She therefore called on the youth to withdraw from politicians that are not interested in their well-being and development.
Adding that the nation continues to groan under the effects of an economy under recession that has created tension in the polity, which the party will in a short, medium and long term roll out sound economic policies based on ideal economic blueprint that would bring respite to the people.
However, she said the party stands to give hope to Nigerians and not the offer of change, because the ‘change’ campaign has brought untold and unexpected suffering to Nigerians.
She said: “Our party’s ideology is to reduce the mass movement of people from the rural areas to the urban areas, which our motto is “peace, industry and progress.”
Meanwhile, the National Chairman, GDPN, Amb Cedrak Okpebholo, while speaking on the herdsmen-farmers conflict in the country, recently in Benue State, said Mr President should order all owners of cattle to buy land and go into full scale ranching, which will go a long way to solve the problem.
Okpebholo also said with the party receiving certificate from INEC, it would target the presidency come 2019 based on its vibrant structures, and it will change the face of democratic governance in the country.
He also called on Nigerians to support and join the party as they provide 40 per cent provision for women participation in politics, 35 per cent for the youths. He said the party was comfortable with the election time table released by INEC, and would field a candidate for the presidential election.
“But may I quickly advice our youths to stop selling off their vote and rights for peanuts by same corrupt people.
“The consequence is that you’re mortgaging your future and that of your children and great grandchildren unknowingly. Take no fish from anyone because in GDPN we will teach you how to fish better.
“The only way to say no to corruption is to stop receiving from the moneybags that enriched themselves at your expense”, he said.
