OWERRI—THE Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province will hold a prayer rally on Friday, pleading with God to raise credible and less greedy politicians to run the affairs of Imo State and Nigeria in 2019.
The Local Ordinary, Archbishop Anthony J. V. Obinna, who disclosed this in a two-page release made available to newsmen in Owerri, also listed 10 prayer points that made the rally inevitable.
“We are requesting for credible and less greedy politicians for good governance and people caring services, in view of the 2019 general elections, as well as peaceful, non-violent politicking among politicians and the electorate in this 2018, transition year to the year 2019”, Archbishop Obinna said.
The Archdiocese will also pray for “better economic welfare of Imo citizens and the travail of traders, motorists, civil servants, teachers, pensioners and rebuilding of destroyed businesses.”
Obinna disclosed that Catholics will equally pray for more courageous witnessing to Jesus Christ, better relationship and unity among Christians in Imo State and beyond.
According to Archbishop Obinna, other prayer points include good health for all citizens, healing and better medicare for the sick and compassion for the elderly and aged.
While saying that the Archdiocese was still interested in more work opportunities for the unemployed youths and other unemployed citizens, through government intervention, equal human respect for every Igbo person, protection and care of children, the cleric also called for rejection and denunciation of abortion, prostitution, promiscuity, incest and irresponsible dressing.
