Soldier dies, as troops repel Boko Haram attack in Adamawa

ABUJA—THE Nigerian Army, Monday, lost one of its soldiers just as three others sustained various degrees of injuries from an improvised explosive device, IED, launched by Boko Haram terrorists in Gulak, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

This came as troops of 28 Task Force Brigade of Operation Lafiya Dole, killed two female suicide bombers at Waga Lawan in Madagali Local Government Area of the state on same day.

The incident happened when the troops repelled a Boko Haram terrorists attack in the area.

The Army, in a statement by its spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman, said the troops fought gallantly to repel the terrorists, who attempted to infiltrate Gulak town.

According to the statement, “the troops thwarted the terrorists by neutralising a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, IED, trying to ram into a stationery gun truck to gain access into their location.

“Unfortunately, the shrapnel from the detonated IED killed a soldier and injured three others,” the statement said, adding that the remains of the soldier have since been evacuated, while the injured are receiving medical attention in a military hospital.

The two female Boko Haram terrorists were killed by the troops of 28 Task Force Brigade in conjunction with civilian vigilante.

It added: “The two female suicide bombers were challenged while fleeing from the bush, but they refused to stop. On sighting the suicide vest on them, they were neutralised by the troops.”

The statement further added that ”the decimated Boko Haram terrorists are more desperate and resorting to persons and vehicle-borne ieds to attack soft targets and vulnerable members of the populace.
