Over six hundred Imo monarchs from their various palaces thronged out to welcome the President of Liberia, Mrs Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
An event, where Sirleaf, was conferred with a chieftaincy title, known as Ada di Oha Mma, (The daughter that is good for all).
As it has almost become a tradition in Imo state, a statue of Sirleaf, was not only unveiled but a road named after her was commissioned. Exactly the same measure of treatment accorded to her South African counterpart, Jacob Zuma.
The ceremony commenced on Thursday 9th to 10th of November, 2017, at the Palace of Eze Imo, HRH. Eze Samuel Ohiri.
To some observers, the show has turned to be an all night event, where our revered traditional rulers had to learn to be outside their palaces at sundown. Imagine a night in the palace without a king. And also imagine how it looks like for a whole day.
It was rather dramatic, to see our Royal fathers wait till nightfall just to fulfil their mission. The traditional rulers were said to have started arriving in the state capital, Owerri, at about 1pm, and they had to depart from the venue from 10pm.
However, it recalled the same scenario which was not different during the visit of President Zuma.
So, it may sound offensive to say that the monarchs were subjected to an untold anguish. It was an uneasiness for some of them who were not too strong again to withstand such a night outing. It may not also sound bad to capture that it was not only tormenting but a misery experience.
Southeast voice gathered that many of them who were weak and could not cope with the stress they encountered on that day.
This was as some suggested that when next African President visit Imo state, it should be organized in such a way that it does not become a nocturnal event as to allow traditional rulers to go back to their domain on time.
Some reasoned that the health of their traditional rulers should be taken into consideration to avoid deteriorating. They added that some of the monarchs who were on drugs did not envisage staying at that point in the night, to have missed taking their medication.
However, for the whole event, it was successful having bestowed the first female African President, with a very cherished title in Igboland.
The visit was not without high expectations, as some said that one of the benefits derivable from Liberia, was that Imo state, has been placed conspicuously on the map of African continent and that the state is discussed at that level based on education.
Their claim was that having hosted not more than three sitting African Presidents, that in no distant time, investors from those country would come and establish their businesses.
