Governor Willie Obiano, former political godson to Peter Obi, was abroad when he was invited by Obi and then National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, to return and contest the governorship election in 2014.

He won the election with Victor Umeh as the Director-General of his campaign organisation. Chief Victor Umeh marshalled the campaign and showed himself as an enduring political factor in the state. He has by his feat marshalled four successive election victories in the state.

Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, the businessman, was not a candidate but made a choice in defecting to APGA after much muttering about the primaries that produced Obaze as the PDP candidate. He was not regretting his decision last night.

Real PDP: Many PDP chieftains who were displeased with the way Oseloka Obaze emerged as the candidate of the party actively collaborated with the APGA machine to sabotage their party in the election. Many of the chieftains were gleeful over the outcome of the result at the weekend.

Anambra South: Political stakeholders from Anambra South were desirous of a sustenance of the unofficial zoning pattern. A victory for Obiano from Anambra North in their belief makes it logical for Anambra South to produce the governor in 2021.

Money politics: Cash was very evident in the transactions that occurred last Saturday and prevailed.

Ex-governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi

Besides the candidates who lost to Obiano, yesterday, other major losers included Mr. Peter Obi, the immediate past governor of the state, who had marshalled the campaign to remove Obiano from office.

Like all the other stakeholders who rose against Obiano’s second term, Obi’s PDP lost to APGA in his Anaocha Local Government Area.

Dr. Chris Ngige

Dr. Chris Ngige: Ngige was the Director-General of APC campaign. He had lost as a candidate and has now lost as a campaign manager.

Arthur Eze: The multi-billionaire patron of the APC candidate who had boasted  to enthrone a “village boy in the Government House,” convincingly delivered his polling booth but was unable to deliver his local government area to his boy.

Senator Andy Uba: Senator Andy Uba after losing to Dr. Nwoye in the APC primaries stayed away from him and his campaign, but when President Buhari came for the campaign, he came out to identify with him.

Senator Uche Ekwunife: She boldly came out to support Dr. Nwoye but was unable to deliver her Njikoka local government area to him.
