Traders at Alapere Market in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Area of Lagos State have decried the untold hardship being experienced daily along the Alapere-Estate-Agboyi road, currently undergoing construction.

They attributed their plight to the ‘slow pace of work’ by the contractor handling the project. They said the project which started in February this year was to be completed last month.

One of the traders, Iyabo Adewale said: ‘’ We are experiencing loss of patronage and poor sales. Before the construction works started on the road, we would display our wares as early as 8 a.m, but since the commencement of the project, we can no longer display our wares until about 4 p.m in the evening.

‘’The consequence of this, is that we are losing our loyal customers and income. We want the state government to order quick completion of the project, because we are losing money daily and our children cannot go to school because we don’t have money to pay their school fees.”

Other traders who spoke to us lamented the hardship being experienced as a result of the project and urged government to expedite action on the work.

Speaking on the issue, an official of the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, who refused to be named however said the project would soon be completed, adding that the market would be relocated to Fortune Garden area of the community.
