Director General of Arede Edeimene Campaign Organisation in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State, Mr. Grade-One Clark, yesterday, denied media report that some aspirants were angry over an alleged primary election in Burutu, noting that primaries were yet to hold in the council.
Clark appealed to the state PDP Chairman, Mr. Kingsley Esiso, to call on party leaders in Burutu Local Government Area to stop the alleged imposition of a chairmanship aspirant as candidate of the party in the forthcoming local government elections.
In a statement, he said that claims of the endorsement of a chairmanship aspirant as “governor’s favourite” in the party in the forthcoming council election in the state were causing tension in Burutu, as the choice of the candidate was not the choice of the Burutu people.
He said that as a core supporter of Mr. Arede Edeimene, Burutu council chairmanship aspirant, “I appeal to the state PDP Chairman to ensure that a transparent PDP primary election is carried out for all aspirants so that the people can elect the candidate of their choice.”
He noted that it was only a transparent PDP primaries that can guarantee victory for the party in 2019 and not imposition, adding that all the ongoing protests by party faithful across the council will only come to an end when a transparent primary election was held for all the chairmanship aspirants.
He said, “If a transparent primary election is not done, the next thing will be massive defection of party members to other parties they feel that practices internal democracy and that may speel doom for the PDP in 2019 in Burutu council.”
