Badagry (Lagos State) – For allegedly stabbing his friend, Funsho Taiwo, with a broken bottle on the head, 25-year-old Olaitan Ibrahim, on Monday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State.

Ibrahim, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of assault occasioning harm.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 9 at Agunmojayi Community, Ilogbo Eremi, Badagry.

Ikem said the accused and the accused were embroiled in a hot argument over a bottle of beer at a bar.

“The accused, who are friends, were in a bar drinking when an argument started over who should pay for the beer.

“In the heat of the argument, the accused broke a bottle and stabbed the complainant on the head,” he said.

The offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Chief Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye, in his ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned until Oct. 10 for mention. (NAN)
