Girl, 4, seeks N1.2m for eye surgery

By Oluwaseyi Adeshina

Being blind is one of the worst conditions anyone could encounter, and Confidence, a 4-year-old girl is currently battling such dilemma.

Her father, Anoliefo Samuel who had a similar challenge  is seeking help on her behalf.

In a chat, he told Good Health Weekly the genesis of the problem: “We noticed that whenever she wants to read she will bring the material closer to her eyes.

“This continued for a while so we took her to Eye Foundation where she was diagnosed with poor vision. They said there is a little crack on the retina which needs to be corrected through surgery that would cost N1.169 million that I cannot afford.”

According to a medical report Confidence has poor vision in both eyes. The report explained that her parents were counselled about her need for a procedure known as bilateral lensectomy with anterior vitrectomy and intraocular lens implant.

The physician said Confidence  needs to have bilateral prophylactic assessment to forestall future retinal detachment and would  tremendously benefit from the lens implant.
