Former Super Eagles coach and captain, Austin Eguavoen, has been named as the Ambassador of Edo State League.


Chairman of Edo FA, Frank Ilaboya, who broke the news to newsmen said Eguavoen will henceforth be the face of the state and will serve as role model as well as mentor to upcoming players.

Ambassador for Edo State League. His appointment is part of the innovation we are bringing to the table as far as this year’s league is concerned. “We are convinced that he will do a good job in this role and the youth of Edo State will benefit from his immense experience spanning over 15 years in the domestic scene. “His international exposure is also an added advantage and all these will add value to the state”

Responding, Eguavoen , who is currently on holiday in Europe promised to be a good Ambassador for the league.

“Honestly I am honoured  and overwhelmed by this gesture from the Edo FA led by Frank Ilaboya, and I promise to do my best to reciprocate this wonderful gesture.

“This is the first time this type if thing is happening in the Nigerian League and I must say kudos to Frank Ilaboya for his innovative mind. He has actually brought back life to Edo State football
