lagos—THE Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni, yesterday handed over secretariat keys of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State to a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Bode George.

But a mild drama took place at the Lagos Police Command, venue of the event, as a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Mrs Aduke Maina kicked against the handing over of the keys to George insisting that the crisis rocking the party in Lagos is yet to be resolved.

Owoseni handed over office keys of the party secretariat to George and other leaders of the party present behind closed doors in his office, following a letter written by the PDP secretary, Senator Ben Obi.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the closed door meeting with the CP, Chief George assured members of peace in the party.

His words: “Let me assure all our people in Lagos that there will be peace in Lagos PDP. I have collected the keys in the presence of Mrs Aduke Maina, who is also a BoT member, which is what is contained in the letter sent from the party secretariat. Now, I will hand over the keys for our people to operate.”

Aduke Maina kicks against handover

Kicking against the handing over of keys to George, Mrs Aduke Maina said the party in Lagos was still factionalised.

She said: “The people representing the party here are not the only party members, there are still numerous party members. So, if you want to do this chief (George) for peace to reign, you have to include every other person. You cannot hand it (keys) to just one person, we have factions in Lagos, we should not shy away from that. We have factions, it is politics and it is bound to happen. I disagree that there is only exco in Lagos, it is inconclusive.”
