ABA—Consumer Protection Council, CPC, Abia State, has seized adulterated olive oil and assorted drinks at the Cemetery market, Aba.

Chairman of CPC, Abia State, Mr. Ukadike Ogbuagu, in an interview with Vanguard in Aba, said his agency got a tip off that one Mr. Okechukwu had been selling adulterated drinks and Goya olive oil to the unsuspecting public.

He stated that the suspect got information about the raid and fled his shop leading to the recovery of the adulterated items.

Ogbuagu vowed that CPC in the state was determined to rid the markets of fake and adulterated products and urged the public to volunteer useful information about substandard goods and services as well as unsafe practices to the CPC.

According to him, “we got information about a dealer on adulterated drinks and olive oil and swooped into action. Before the combined team of CPC officials and Policemen arrived the market, the suspected dealer had already gotten information and fled, but we were able to recover the fake products.

Mr. Dupe Atoki, a lawyer is the Director-General, Consumer Protection Council, CPC.

“The public should try to volunteer information about these adulterated products to the CPC. We will continue our surveillance, it is not going to be easy to eliminate these adulterated products, but we will give the manufacturers of these fake products a run for their money.”

He warned the public to be cautious about the various products they buy from the market, stressing that a bottle of the confiscated Goya Olive oil was filled with a substance suspected to be palm oil when CPC officials uncorked it.

He disclosed that the CPC is vested with power to collaborate with the Police to investigate as well as arrest and prosecute manufacturers of adulterated products and urged such people to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
