Akure—HARD times await  the 18 local government chairmen appointed under the immediate past Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government in Ondo State as the new governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN ordered the freezing of the councils accounts.

Also, it was learnt that salaries of the political appointees in all the councils areas had been stopped and their names allegedly removed from the payment voucher of the state government.

The affected appointees include : secretaries of the councils, personal assistants, special advisers, chiefs of staff among others.

Former governor Olusegun Mimiko had conducted a local government election last  April where the present chairmen emerged.

Vanguard gathered that these development was a prelude to the dissolution of the council by the governor  despite his denial of the Appeal to that effect pending before the Court of Appeal.

Vanguard gathered that a circular was sent to all the council chairmen informing them of governor Akeredolu’s directive.

The chairman of the State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Bayo Alarapon, confirmed the development.

Alarapon, who is the Chairman of Akure South council area said the association was yet to decide on their next line of action on the order of the new governor.

“ We have not really gone into the matter, but we are already into it and whatever we decide later, we will let the world know,” he said.
