FOLLOWING the arrest of a former member of the House of Representatives, Nze Chidi Duru, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, his family has raised an alarm over Duru’s deteriorating health.
Duru was arrested, at the weekend, in his office at the Grand Towers Hotel, Katampe and taken to the EFCC office in Abuja.
In a statement signed by Duru’s family, they described the former lawmaker’s ordeal in the hands of security agencies as “high level injustice.”
The statement reads: “The entire Duru family of Nkpologwu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, would like to bring the attention of the public to the failing health of our son, who was rushed to a medical facility, on 6th February, 2017, as a result of frequent undue detention by security agencies in violation of various court orders.
“We are once again calling on well meaning Nigerians to intervene against this high level injustice.”
On his part, Duru’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Osita Ogbuagu Jr said: “Honourable Nze Chidi Duru was rushed to a medical facility in Abuja by the EFCC. His health has been failing due to the perpetual illegal detentions that he has faced in the hands of security agencies and the anti-corruption commission, who have constantly disobeyed court orders.
“I am once again calling on well meaning Nigerians to intervene as in the last six years, it has been blatant disregard for the rule of law and high powered impunity.”
