LYCEE Français Louis Pasteur, a premium French school in Victoria Island, Lagos, under the French Agency for Teaching Abroad and managed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recently hosted parents to an information session on French primary school system, the school’s French curriculum, and the introduction of bilingual teachings.

Held in the Human Rights Auditorium of the school, the school’s Principal, Mr. Alain Berna, gave insights into how the French curriculum and education system works.

Highlighting the features of the French educational system which promote strong positive values such as freedom, equality, respect, spirit of justice, solidarity, freedom of speech, openness, creative spirit, and diversity, Berna said the increasingly competitive nature of today’s world has made it more imperative for children to be exposed to a comprehensive set of values to prepare them for their future.

He said “At Lycée Français, parents can be assured of a teaching language that is rich, varied and efficient. Also, the French language is the paramount language of instruction, but it does not overshadow learning in other languages on request as the school takes advantage of the diversity of its students and the languages they speak to make plurilingual education one of its priorities. Our bilingual teaching would comprise 60% French and 40% English languages.”

Also speaking, director, Primary School, Mrs. Pascale Lagleize, said “The primary school is the gateway to the French school system, which is divided into the eight kindergarten classes and the 14 elementary classes. And Lycée Français’ ambition is to provide all pupils, whatever their origin, with quality, content-rich, multilingual and multicultural education, as well as universal values.”
